Star Wars: The Bad Batch is set in a time when Republic forces waged a bitter war against Count Dooku's Separatists. At that time, the Senate had a hard time, because the renegades were well sponsored by merchants and smugglers. A radical change in the situation was made by a huge army of clones grown in secret laboratories. These soldiers were disciplined, well-equipped, and easily controlled by the Force, making them the perfect companions for the powerful Jedi. However, even the most debugged pipeline sometimes fails. Therefore, among the identical warriors, there were five people with mutated genes. They were given the names Wrecker, Tech, Crosshair, Echo, and Hunter, and were united into Clone Force 99. The latter was appointed leader.
The group's first mission was to help Padawan Caleb Doom and his master Depa Billaba on the planet Kaller. During the battle with the rebels, "Order 66" is received, which should force the clones to attack the representatives of the light side of the Force. However, the mutants are able to resist the mental suggestion of the Sith. The hunter orders Caleb released, while Jedi Master Billaba is shot in the back. Returning from a mission to the base located in Kamino, the main characters learn the shocking news that the Republic is gone and the Empire has been formed.
